Bi-Annual Yoga Class Offers Skills for Youth

BaredFeet is offering its annual Summer Youth Yoga series again.  It started Monday July 15 and will run six weeks until August 19 for ages 6-13.

The instructor, Lynn Buske, offers this class because, “Yoga gives me a fun way to equip children, especially sensitive and creative ones, with tools to help them feel strong inside and out.”

partnersBuske is not a certified kids’ yoga instructor, but has been teaching various forms of expressive movement for 16 years. She has worked with children in various capacities almost constantly since she was twelve, and taught ESL in Taiwan after graduating from Luther College where she earned a BA in theatre/dance.  She has taught yoga to children and adults in Seattle, WA, Iowa and Wisconsin.

Classes are every Monday from 6:15-7:15 p.m., and are held at 308 N Barstow Street, Eau Claire, Wisconsin 54703.  At $8 a class, drop-ins are welcome.  The series runs again in the winter.

“The kids not only enjoy learning a challenging skill,” she continues, “but seem to really connect with yoga’s message of peace.  I see them revel in the stories about kindness, display joy in the games on gratitude, and transported to their imagination in the meditations.”

”We play with rocks, pretend to be animals, get creative to fun music, and learn to like resting.  They don’t even realize the skills they are picking up – they just think they are playing games and learning poses.  I love to see the satisfaction in their faces when they accomplish a pose – like solving a puzzle,” says Buske.
